I am getting to know the artists who will be part of circus sessions. This time I got to talk to the juggler in the group; Greg Tarlin this is what he has to say.

How long have you been doing circus arts and which circus arts do you do?

I learned to juggle in high school and later added any other object manipulation skills I could (plus stilts and unicycling).

Describe your work as a circus artist? Trad, Cirque, Contemporary?

I mostly perform in comedy variety shows- sometimes solo, sometimes as an act in a larger show, and often with my wife Kristi. Kristi and I also perform various shows at children’s festivals, schools, and science centres. I often perform at circus themed events, although I’ve never worked with a circus for any extended time.

What’s your most interesting/ weirdest gig?

Performing is the only job I’ve ever had, and I’ve been at it for over 25 years. There are a lot of stories. I like being on tour with variety shows for all the adventures and the camaraderie. Kristi and I were asked to create new science themed shows annually for the Ontario Science Centre for a number of years and that was an interesting challenge as we had to stretch harder and harder to keep things fresh.

What interests you about circus sessions ?

Opportunities for collaboration. My performances are almost entirely solo or duo shows. I’d like to find more opportunities to work with others to create something larger.
