I talk to Diana Lopez Soto who is one of the artist participating in Circus Sessions.

How long have you been doing circus arts and which circus arts do you do?

It has been about 10 years. I do fire spinning, aerial arts, puppetry, stilt walking and just started to do hand balancing.

Describe your work as a circus artist? Trad, Cirque, Contemporary?

Contemporary, my performance practice is an extension of my visual art work. I like to produce multi-disciplinary site-specific performances, using media, sculpture and sound to communicate my ideas. Currently, I’ve been more drawn to in theatrical spaces and in collaboration with filmmakers.

What’s your most interesting/ weirdest gig?

In terms of gigs, I think they all are kind of weird as you end up performing at random spaces for interesting crowds. Also, my productions have been mostly site-specific so I have found them rather interesting. Under cloudy skies, full moons and sounds of crickets, which I find is part of the performance as it changes the intention of the work in the moment.

What interests you about circus sessions ?

The opportunity to work with other artists, colleagues and friends inside a theatre in condense amount of time.
